Our New Boathouse
Camrowers Boathouse was officially opened in July 2017 by Daniel Zeichner M.P. and Annamarie
Phelps C.B.E., Chairman of British Rowing. The "semi-detached" boathouse is a partnership
project with the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association (CRA), providing purpose-built facilities
for Camrowers and boat storage for the CRA. See here for more on our
official opening, including Camrowers' octogenarian row past.
At last Camrowers has changing rooms, showers, toilets and space to enjoy hot drinks,
as well as rowing machines and proper boat storage. The new boathouse will enable the
club to expand in the future with more members and more rowing sessions
We are indebted to everyone who helped us raise over £300,000 to fund the project. Members
of Camrowers themselves raised over £100,000. Sport England's Inspired Facilities Lottery
Fund kick started the project with £75,000 in September 2015 and in March 2016 Cambridge
City Council stepped in with Section 106 Developer Funding of £250,000 - shared between
Camrowers and the CRA. Camrowers also had grants from the Garfield Weston Foundation and
Persimmon Homes.
The whole building, housing the CRA and Camrowers, cost £670,000 and was designed by
Architects Saunders Boston and built by contractors Millcam.
